JR's off-the-cuff take (because you can read the same boring old biographical information anywhere):
Married a bunch of times, most notably to Ethel Merman (for 32 days) and to last (we hope) wife Tova, who used to hawk skin cream called Tova 9. (Tove... Borg-nine, get it?) ... My dad and I never missed "McHale's Navy." ... The red-stoned ring Ernie wears in TPA is his own. ... Best role: Marty — his Oscar was well-deserved.
Best Poseidon moment: Tie: 1) "Well, I hadda thinka some way ta keep ya off the streets until ya'd marry me!"; 2) his agonized condemnation of Scott after Linda falls off the catwalk.

| Post-Chronicle, April 11, 2012. "HAMDEN - Mayor Scott Jackson will present the 2012 Orchid Awards as part of the town's Earth Day Celebration at Hamden Middle School, April 21. These awards, sponsored by the Hamden Clean and Green Commission, will be presented at noon. They are given in recognition of the commitment demonstrated by town businesses or individuals to safeguard the character and physical appearance of the Town for all its citizens. This year the Hamden Clean and Green Commission's Civic Orchid award will be presented to Lyn Baumgartner and Mary DeSarbo for their dedicated efforts to renew the Ernest Borgnine Park, which is located directly across from the Karma Garden which they created and have maintained for 10 years. ..." |
