The Extras
A COMPREHENSIVE TOME of vague and not-so-vague EXTRAS. These are the wonderful and often notable folks which create the "Atmos" for the dining room and post-capsize shots. At times they are more notable, or even more fun to watch, than the Cast Principals. I have named them based on outstanding or obvious physical/costume characteristics, and many names have been supplemented over the years by list members and folks who have also spotted these delightful diners/revellers/victims, so the names are somewhat subject to personal opinion! Interestingly, many of the extras were made to change costumes for the post-capsize sequences, to look like other people. Some made it through with no changes, others go through drastic ones, from evening gowns to pants-suits. Theoretically this was to give the impression of many more people, but some ARE still recognizable, and through the clever eyes of Mount Poseidon List members, the aid of a couple of the actual extras who worked in the film, and my own personal passion for Detail, we present this, the ARMCHAIR GUIDE to POSEIDON ADVENTURE EXTRAS SPOTTING, which can be immense fun if you have viewed The Film so many times already that you are in the mood to look at something ELSE, like the background! Suggestion: Print out this Guide to Extras Spotting when You have nothing better to do than watch the capsize in frame x frame!! And personally, I can't think of a better past-time!! — Paul Pre-Capsize Extras: This is where you will find the bulk of extras, lovingly and obsessively documented in excruciating detail. And if you think all the extras are in the Dining Room, you'll be amazed by how many people are wandering around the ship during the day... The Capsize: From Bun Lady to Dancing Hands Lady, and Fly-Bys to Table-Hangers, this is where you'll find the extras, mid-capsize! Post-Capsize Extras: More Dining Room Extras, post-capsize, from vague corpses in the Dining Room to crispy cooks in the kitchen, to zombies on their way to the bow, to the easily-overlooked handful of dead bodies lying around the rest of the ship. BUT... Stay tuned! In the many years (and thousands more viewings) since Paul and I first compiled this tome, NEW EXTRAS have been discovered! That's right: There are Extras who have never documented before! And will be, soon (as Scott tells Tinkham), very soon. (Isn't that just one of the neatest things about TPA? No matter how many times you watch it, you always find something new!) So... Stay tuned! — JR
